Initiated by Ethiopian-Israeli youth counselors within Bnei Akiva youth movement, the HaShachar project aims to address the leadership crisis within the Ethiopian-Israeli community. HaShachar prepares its graduates to assume leadership roles in the community and to develop empowerment programs for Ethiopian-Israelis aimed to foster internal changes in self-perception. Some 250 high school age youth participate in 25 HaShachar leadership groups throughout the country. The David Foundation supports 50% of the annual national budget for the program.
